Many young, creative Africans would like to head Nigeria in order to attend the Ake Arts and Book Festival but are constrained by opportunity and the cost of travel. With the new Ake Festival/Air France Prize, three young Africans will have the opportunity to attend Ake Arts and Book Festival in 2015.
Prizes
The Winner in each category will receive:
EUR200 in prize money
A return ticket to Lagos, Nigeria
Free ground transportation from and to the airport
Free Accommodation at a 3* hotel that is a short walk from the festival venue
Free All-event Pass
A short feature at the Ake Festival Opening Ceremony
A plaque presented by Ake Festival/ Air France at the opening ceremony
Work featured in Ake Review 2015
Rules
Entrants Must:
Have a valid international passport
Be able to apply for visas as required
Be between 18 and 30 years of age
Submit original and unpublished work in French/ English
Theme
The central theme of the competition is travel, which references geographical or physical movement or in the broader sense which encapsulates migration or mind travel. Submitted work must be original and unpublished. Africa must be the focus of all submitted work. Work can be submitted in either English or French. Only one submission can be made in the three categories.
Prose
One submission only
Submissions must not exceed 400 words
Work must be set in Africa
Entries that read like travelogues are desirable.
Photography:
One submission only
The image should be at least 2,700 pixels along its longest edge.
It must be sent as a .JPEG file
The file name must be your first name and surname (CAPS).
List your camera model, phone model any other information in the body of your email.
Judges
The competition will be administered Ake Arts and Book Festival. Entrants must submit their work online. See Ake Festival website for more details.

Deadlines:
30 September -- Make call for entrees and announce 1 October deadline.
10 October -- Deadline for entrees
11 October -- Entrees submitted to judges
16 October -- Judges feed back a shortlist of five in each category
19 October -- Stakeholders agree on shortlist
21 October --Announce and Display shortlisted 5 in each category on website/
Invite public to vote
24 October -- Close voting process
30 October -- Winners announced on AABF and Air France website and Social Media
Deliverables for Winners
Within a week after the festival, winners will be expected to submit a 250-word account of their time at Ake Arts and Book Festival. This may be used for publicity purposes.
